About Therapy with Alexandra Davidson, Psy.D.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is therapy right for me?

People can seek therapy for many different reasons, whether to find support in times of transition or to more effectively manage long-standing psychological issues. Therapy can be right for anyone who wants to develop insight and make change in their lives. If you are not sure about whether therapy can help, I encourage you to schedule a free phone consultation so we can discuss your unique circumstances.

What should I expect in the first session?

The first session is the start of evaluation to assess the therapeutic fit. We will talk about why you are seeking therapy at this time, your current treatment goals, and any previous experience with psychotherapy. This is also a time for you to determine if my therapeutic approach works for you and to ask about my training and experience.

Do you accept insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider for all insurance companies. Payment is due by the end of each session. I can provide you with a monthly statement or "superbill" that you can submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement. Some PPO insurance plans can reimburse anywhere between 20-80% of the session fee.

To note, I am no longer taking on new clients via Lyra Health.

If you plan to use your insurance, contact your insurance carrier prior to your first session to ask about your benefits for psychotherapy. The following are questions you may want to address:

  • Do I have mental health benefits?
  • What is my deductible and has it been met?
  • How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover?
  • How much does my plan cover for an out-of-network therapy session?
  • Do I need pre-authorization before beginning therapy?
If your insurance does not cover out-of-network providers, you may be able to pay for therapy out of your pre-tax income using an HSA or FSA account.

What is your fee per session?

You can learn more about the cost of sessions and how to submit payment on my Psychology Today profile.

What is your cancellation policy?

Appointments are typically scheduled on a weekly basis at a time specifically held for you. A minimum of three business days is required to cancel a scheduled appointment, otherwise you are responsible for payment for the session. Most insurance companies do not reimburse for missed sessions.

How do I get started?

Getting started is easy! The first step is scheduling a free consultation. Call or email me and we will find a time to talk about whether I might be a good fit for your needs at this time.
